Audio Atrocities™ : Enchanted Arms · Ubisoft/FromSoftware · XBOX 360 · 2006
This was one of the first RPGs on the XBOX 360. It centered on a kid whose right arm was becoming a weapon of sorts that could cast powerful spells and maybe save the world (and his DOG). Very original.

Graphically, it was okay, but the writing and acting was pretty atrocious. It's one of a very few console games with one of the main characters being gay (Deep Fear is another). The part I don't get is why gay=flaming in video games. It seems to be a bridge too far to have a moderate gay character in console games. Instead, they're portrayed as super-flaming lispy homosexuals that are sooo "out there", they would be shunned in West Hollywood. But, that's what we have in Enchanted Arms, too. Caveat Emptor (and whatever's Latin for "Renter Beware").

The voice acting varies from passable to bad, but most of the problem is with the terrible, ham-fisted writing the voice actors were given. It's really tedious stuff. As you'd expect, the gay character is given super-flaming, stereotypical stuff to say. There's plenty of bad to enjoy here, so dig right in:

Exhibit A: You ready for THIS? Eyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
You thought I was exaggerating about the super-flaming gay character, didn't you? Well, this battle clip of one of his attacks should put your skepticism to rest.

Exhibit B: Makoto...Makado....
Yes, it's a tomato, tomatoe situation, but it drives me crazy when the producer/director doesn't CARE enough to get all the voice actors on the same pronunciation page! This is two of the main characters referring to a third, using entirely different spellings of the other character's name! Bleaugh!

Exhibit C: My name is "Queen of Ice"...
No, your TITLE is "Queen of Ice". The writing is so crappy we may never know what your actual NAME is. Even if this wasn't clear in the source material, any localization crew not living in the Cali fog of their local collective would have the brainpower to change he line to "I am the Queen of Ice" and drop the stupid "My name is..." nonsense. Even Eminem recognizes "My Name is" as a weak line.
